SUN VALLEY
Sun Valley Resort opened in 1936, after the development by Averell Harriman, son of the Union Pacific Railroad baron. A favorite haunt of Ernest Hemingway and several other stars and starlets, the resort garnered attention in splashy features in Life and Look magazines. The Sun Valley Lodge, recently enjoying a complete renovation, invites year- round ice skating, with Olympic skaters performing in the summer months, diverse and exceptional dining, fancy stores with delicious everything. And, you never know who you’ll see parading around the town!
Walking distance from the Lodge, the Sun Valley Pavilion, a 1,500 seat amphitheatre, hosts an array of special guests and functions, from San Francisco Ballet to Garth Brooks. And devoured by thousands each summer, our exceptional Sun Valley Symphony, comprised of some of the best musicians in the country, is not to be missed, and it’s free! Pack a picnic to sit on the lawn or enjoy the seats inside.
Mid July the Sun Valley Center for the Arts Wine Auction is enjoyed by a host of people from all over the country, sipping superb wines from reputable vineyards. A juried Arts and Crafts Festival happens in mid -August, so bring a large shopping bag!
Over the hills, on the mountains, by the golf course, near the river, there are gorgeous properties: large and smaller homes, condos/townhouses throughout the Village and surrounding the resort, including Elkhorn and other subdivisions, offering year -round and seasonal living opportunities.
Although Sun Valley and Ketchum kiss at their borders, they do elect their own mayors. However, both towns enjoy the nicest and best of people you will ever meet! It is America’s greatest winter and summer discovery. A true serenade of beauty and fun, fun, fun!
